Zoloti Vorota (Golden Gate) Metro

Excited to share this real time environment made in Unreal Engine 4. My idea was to create a post-apocalyptic version of my favorite metro station I have visited so far - Zoloti Vorota (Golden Gate) in Kyiv, Ukraine. As reference and inspiration I used real shots I took myself of the station and soviet influenced post-apocalyptic games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R and Metro Exodus.

My goal was to gain a better understanding of storytelling and modularity in big environments. I started this scene through a CGMA modular environment course mentored by Clinton Crumpler, where Clinton gave great feedback on a weekly basis where I got the main metro scene done with some storytelling elements. After the course finished I wanted to push it even further and add more areas in the station where people do different things, as they live and take shelter there since there is war above grounds. Here I have to give big thanks to Timothy Dries for all his help with pushing the project further. He provided amazing insight and feedback as I was pushing the scene and it was really a pleasure to knock around various ideas and approaches for the different parts of the scene with him.

Most of the scene is created using modular geometry, tileable textures, vertex paint materials and trim sheets. I also created unique assets wherever necessary and used also some marketplace and Megascans assets (shown in the shots below). The scene is using a combination of baked lighting and real time raytracing.

I was also happy to get some achievement badges from the Rookies with this scene and reached the final stage for two categories there:
